A Visit From Mr. Beast
March is looking like a good month for fans of instrumental outfit Mogwai: Matador Records is releasing the Scottish group’s fifth studio album, Mr. Beast, with a round of U.S. tour dates to coincide.
Mogwai, which last toured the U.S. on The Cure‘s Curiosa outing in summer 2004, will kick things off March 1 at Chicago’s Logan Square Auditorium, followed by two weeks of shows in the South and East Coast. They’ll finish the trip with a stop at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, March 15.
Fellow instrumentalists Growing are to support on most dates.
Prior to the U.S. run, Mogwai is visiting Japan and Russia and doing a five-night residency at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts in January.
Mr. Beast is Mogwai’s first studio album since 2003’s Happy Songs For Happy People. In December 2004, they released Government Commissions (BBC Sessions 1996-2003), a collection of performances at BBC studios.
