The progressive bluegrass innovators will wrap a mammoth 57-date fall tour December 17 and take a couple months off the road before landing in Aberdeen, Scotland, February 15.

They’ll spend the rest of the month traversing the U.K., finishing in Bristol February 28.

A few U.S. dates are already booked for spring, including MerleFest April 29 in Wilkesboro, N.C., and Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June.

Though the band has a firm grasp on tradition, the members incorporate many contemporary influences. Besides adding Celtic, jazz and country flavors to the mix, Nickel Creek cites pop-rock influences including Toad The Wet Sprocket, Elliott Smith, and Counting Crows.

“The really amazing thing is that people are getting turned on to something that’s totally different and it’s just a real blessing to be a part of maybe opening people’s ears to something out of their comfort zone,” fiddler Sara Watkins told Pollstar back when the band was starting out.

The band is out in support of its third release, Why Should the Fire Die?, which hit stores in August.
