Remixing A Tour
The trek will kick off February 24 in San Francisco, where Lyrics Born will be joined onstage at DNA Lounge by two of his Quannum Projects labelmates: His former Latyrx partner, Lateef The Truth Speaker, and Blackalicious mouthpiece Gift Of Gab.
Lyrics Born will stay on the road for two full months, with shows across the U.S. and several in Canada. He’ll be back in California by April 22, when the tour closes at UC Davis’ Freeborn Hall.
In addition to the new material, fans can expect to hear plenty from his first album and several Latyrx classics.
Same !@#$ Different Day, a “loose remix album,” hits stores April 26. The disc features eight new versions of tracks from Lyrics Born’s 2003 debut, Later That Day…, but the rapper promises that they are similar to the originals in name only. The album also includes five new songs.
“I wrote and produced the majority of the material on Later That Day…, but I’ve always thought of myself as an artist who not only can produce but also can be produced,” Lyrics Born said.
“With Same !@#$, Different Day, I wanted to link up with outside producers and artists I admire, who could help me get beyond my own limitations. Most of the ‘remix’ tracks have entirely new lyrics, music, or both, and feature a slew of guest artists that weren’t present on the originals.”
Said guests include KRS-One, Evidence, Casual, E-40 and frequent collaborator Joyo Velarde on vocals, and a variety of producers including DJ Shadow, Dan The Automator, Cut Chemist and DJ D Sharp.
