Life After Lolla
Rather than sitting around bemoaning their suddenly vacant road schedules, Sonic Youth and the String Cheese Incident have thrown together headlining tours for July and August, and The Polyphonic Spree and Gomez will head out together during the same period. Fellow Lolla refugees Wolf Eyes will support Sonic Youth on several dates.
Modest Mouse wasted no time in announcing a full series of North American concerts, with The Walkmen opening on several dates and also headlining their own tour.
Schedules for The Von Bondies and Michael Franti & Spearhead are also filling up.
Prior to the cancellation, some of the acts – including Sonic Youth and the Polyphonic Spree – had already announced plans for solo dates on the festival’s off-days, fueling rumors of the event’s impending doom.
Morrissey, who was to headline the festival, is set to play Chicago’s House of Blues July 17, but no other North American dates have been announced. The Pixies, who were to appear on select Lolla dates, have a relatively bare schedule for July and August, although they’re booked solid in North America from September through early December.
The Flaming Lips have stated that they will spend the summer working on their next album and their upcoming feature film, “Christmas On Mars.”
Only time will tell whether the festival’s other acts, including TV On The Radio, The Coup, and Le Tigre, decide to take a vacation or get their own tours together.
