Policing The Clubs
After their first U.S. headlining tour this September, the breaking band headed back overseas where they first saw fame. They’ll be in Europe through mid-November before jumping the pond for a series of concerts on the East Coast. Interpol look to wrap out the year with a two-night stand at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom December 20-21.
Perhaps as a result of being signed to a U.K. indie label, Interpol have seen their first dose of fame come from Europe, while they remain relatively unknown at home. Their tunes spin regularly on London-area radio stations without so much as a full-length album behind them.
Formed in 1998, Interpol did the local band thing for a few years before undergoing a lineup change in 2000. The group took a break, revamped and headed out on the road.
Throughout 2000 and 2001, Interpol opened for The Delgados, Arab Strap, Clinic, and …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, among others, bolstering their onstage presence.
In 2001, they locked themselves in the studio to record their full-length debut. Turn On The Bright Lights came out in August and follows a couple of acclaimed EPs.
