Jill Scott To Headline
While Scott is no stranger to touring, this will be her first time headlining. Earlier this year, she joined forces with Sting on his Brand New Day tour. However, due to months of promotional concerts prior to the Sting road trip, Scott suffered a lung infection that forced her to miss the first few dates. Now recovered, she’s ready to hit the road.
Even before fans knew her name, Scott was at work behind the scenes. She wrote the lyrics to “You Got Me,” which later earned The Roots the Grammy award for best rap performance in 1999.
Following that success, Scott toured with the Canadian cast of “Rent,” collaborated once more with The Roots, as well as Eric Benet, Common, and Will Smith. Then she decided to do something on her own.
Garnering comparisons to Erykah Badu among other soul stars, Scott’s debut, Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds: Vol. I, went platinum status six months after release and garnered her three Grammy nominations of her for new artist, R&B female vocal performance and R&B album of the year.
Scott’s Words & Sounds Summer Tour 2001 stops in more than 20 cities before coming to a close in New York City September 7.
