O-Town Comes To Yo Town
“Making The Band,” the ABC-TV series that brought five young men together to challenge the likes of ‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys in the teen-heartthrob pantheon, saw its second season premiere pushed back from the May sweeps period to a less-desirable June kickoff.
The air dates will, however, coincide with the group’s tour launch.
The TV show may languish in the rerun ghetto, but the guys go on – and are likely coming to a town near you sometime this summer as O-Town hits 47 North American cities.
The fair, radio show fests and outdoor venue tour kicks off June 4 at the Post-Gazette Pavilion near Pittsburgh, Pa., then winds cross-country and back.
O-Town released its eponymous debut album in January and hit the road for several weeks in the winter and spring.
In spite of the dubious credibility of the group’s TV tie-in, singers Ashley Parker Angel, Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller, Trevor Penick and Jacob Underwood have scored a couple of solid hit singles. The O-Towners have even taken to playing guitar onstage, perhaps signaling that there’s more to this boy band than slick harmonies and choreography.
The brainchild of teen-pop impresario Lou Pearlman, O-Town signed last fall with über-mogul Clive Davis’ new J Records label, and has garnered a legion of female fans from past tours and numerous television appearances.
