Puffy And Shyne’s Legal Dramas Continue
No sooner was he acquitted of weapons charges in connection with a New York City club shooting, than he finds himself once again under the legal microscope – for driving a scooter with a suspended driver’s license.
Police in South Beach – a chichi section of Miami Beach – pulled Combs over April 14 for allegedly making an illegal lane change on a motorized scooter.
A license check showed the impresario’s driver’s license was suspended. He was arrested and held for about 20 minutes while he signed a promise to appear in court, Miami Beach Police Sgt. Peter Bitume said.
The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and possibly jail time, Bitume said.
Combs was acquitted in March of bribery and weapons charges stemming from a shooting at a New York City nightclub in which three people were injured. An associate – fellow rapper Jamal “Shyne” Barrow – was convicted of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession charges.
Barrow’s scheduled April 16 sentencing has been held over to June 1, at the request of his attorneys, who needed more time to file court papers and request dismissal of some of the charges.
In a written statement, Barrow denied guilt but accepted blame for the incident: “I apologize to the victims; I didn’t cause your pain but you can place your blame on my shoulders,” MTV News reported.
Outside the courthouse, activist minister Conrad Muhammad told reporters that he expects Combs to follow through with a promise to financially support Barrow’s appeal. Barrow is signed to Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment.
