Triple Dose of Oz
One venue – Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta – confirmed a couple of weeks ago that all three bands penciled in a May 28 concert, sparking speculation that a full-blown caravan was on the drawing board.
Oz-philes will be happy to know that the Australian power-pop heavyweights have finalized a 22-city itinerary, launching with the Atlanta gig and running through June 27 in Las Vegas.
The tour of mostly sheds will take them through major North American markets, including New York City, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Washington, Cincinnati, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
INXS and Midnight Oil will reportedly swap closing duties from show to show.
Jon Stevens – who has already filled in for late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence on several dates in Australia – is expected to reprise his role for the tour. The band has also announced the June 5 release of a two-disc greatest hits package, Shine Like It Does (1979-1997): The INXS Anthology.
Midnight Oil – best known for towering frontman Peter Garrett’s bald pate and their political activism – released The Real Thing last year and still regularly tour their native Australia.
Similarly known for a string of hits during an ‘80s stretch in which all things Oz were deemed cool, Men At Work has continued to tour clubs and theatres worldwide.
