The big purple dinosaur that kids adore but inspires murderous impulses in some adults is coming to a shopping mall near you. If you would sooner chew off your right arm than be subjected to a Barney live show, you might want to put off Christmas shopping until November.

Barney’s Open House Sing Along And Fashion Show will stop at eight malls across the country, the Other Purple One’s first mall tour in eight years. It kicks off September 16 at the Northtown Mall near Minneapolis and ends November 4 at Collin Creek Mall near Dallas.

Other stops include suburban shopping outposts near Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix and Houston.

But wait, there’s more.

Before each Barney performance, parents and their tykes can take in a children’s fashion show and enter a contest to win a toddler’s wardrobe.

The tour supports the launch of a new line of Barney duds, the video release of “Come On Over To Barney’s” and an album, Barney Rocks!

A percentage of video sales will be donated to Habitat For Humanity, but the mall appearances themselves are free – which should come as some solace to parents.

All joking aside, Barney does well box office when hitting arenas. A five-day stand at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J. in February grossed $419,694 and sold 85 percent of the house.
