Tom Tom Club Reopens
The tour will support The Good The Bad And The Funky, the group’s first release in eight years. Shows commence October 9 in Washington D.C., and continue into November, stopping in larger clubs across the country.
Tom Tom Club began as a side project for Weymouth and Frantz, who were original members of Talking Heads and remained with the band until its 1995 demise. The husband and wife rhythm section (he plays drums, she plays bass) and former Talking Heads keyboard wiz Jerry Harrison continued to play and tour together as The Heads for a while longer.
The new Tom Tom Club album has been in the works since 1997 and is set for a September 12 release on Rykodisc.
The band has been out of the public eye for some time, but the catchy tropical beat of Tom Tom Club has remained popular with other artists all along.
Black Eyed Peas, Busta Rhymes, Mariah Carey, Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, Coolio, and LL Cool J are but a few of the artists who have sampled the band’s catalog for their own recordings.
