Campus Invasion Cancellation Altercation
Jason Millican Promotions’ lawsuit alleges that after it paid Bush’s reps $50,000 to secure an April 14 date with MTV’s Campus Invasion Tour featuring the Brit rockers and Moby, the group canceled and kept the money, according to media reports.
The lawsuit by the neophyte promoter seeks return of the deposit, various damages and legal fees, all of which could total upward of $130,000.
About 3,500 tickets reportedly were sold to the canceled event, scheduled to take place on a Bloomington-area farm, and refunds were being issued. However, a statement from Bush said the band is keeping the deposit to ensure ticket holders receive refunds.
“The band are holding their advance in abeyance to ensure that, pending resolution of the suit, every fan that purchased a ticket for that performance will be reimbursed,” a statement from the band’s publicist said.
A William Morris spokesperson said the agency does not comment on pending litigation. A call for comment to Pretty Polly Productions, which was involved with booking the band, was not returned at press time.
Media reports suggested that from the beginning, the show was reeling from problems, including the farm site instead of a campus facility and a premature announcement that Rage Against The Machine would also be on the bill.
