Industry Noize: Concord Pavilion Revamps

Renovations are under way at the 39-year-old Concord Pavilion in California, which should have a fresh look in time for the concert season to kick off in May.

Live Nation signed a new management agreement for the Pavilion in December, pledging $3.7 million in improvements to the venue.

The race is on to complete projects including a remodel of the box office, fresh paint, repaved driveways and plazas, renovated concession stands, restrooms, and dressing rooms for performers, plus new benches, trees, flowers and lawn, according to the Contra Costa Times.

“It’s wonderful because they’re really working hard to leverage their almost $4 million and spread it as far as they can and address two sides of the coin,” Concord Director of Parks and Recreation Joan Carrico told the paper. “The part the city cares about, the infrastructure, and the things customers will see.”

The improvements were just one part of the deal with LN.

The company must also book a minimum of 75 concerts over the next five years and pay Concord $40,000 for each such show that fails to sell 3,000 tickets.

The updates might help with ticket sales. Live Nation is also planning to create a general admission section in front of the stage by removing fixed seats up front, the paper noted.

Acts already on the books this season include Barry Gibb, Lionel Richie, James Taylor, OneRepublic, Journey, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, and Luke Bryan.
