Clapton’s Farewell
Eric Clapton has always honored his Japanese fans with what could be considered more than the normal measure of attention. His most recent Japan tour, which included seven dates and ended with a long show at the Budokan that covered his entire career, appears to be his last ever.

Having recently said in interviews that he is thinking of retiring from the road, Clapton made good on that statement with a letter to his Japanese fans that was included in the concert’s official program.
“I may not be able to come back again,” the message read. “I’ve been coming here for 40 years, before some of you were born. It’s the best place I’ve ever played. Thank you for having me.”
The show included material from his days with Cream, four songs from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, and a lot of blues. Paul Carrack, who played keyboards, contributed three songs of his own, as well.
