Industry Noize: Honda Center Wins Lawsuit

Anaheim Arena Management dropped Aramark and took concessions in house in August, hiring back 75 of the employees while also hiring 756 part-time concession workers.

Three of the former workers filed a class-action suit alleging the venue violated state law, which they argued required employers to offer work to former employees during a transition period.

The Feb. 14 ruling by the Orange County Superior Court granted a demurrer without leave to amend on the matter.

“We are extremely pleased by the court’s decision today,” AAM general counsel Bernard Schneider said in a statement. “Throughout this process we’ve remained confident that our actions were permissible under the law and in the best interest of the millions of guests we serve, as well as those who serve our employees as a result of the termination of the Aramark concession agreement.”

The transition included opening the indoor/outdoor Grand Terrace and, in December, AAM introduced the Puck’s Tavern restaurant and the Window at Puck’s Tavern concession stand. It is also expecting to introduce Wahoo’s Fish Taco in the fall.
