Three giant totem sculptures created by Alpert will be on display at Dante Park, across from Manhattan’s Lincoln Center. They were unveiled Thursday and will be in place until April 15.
The sculptures are called “Spirit Totems.” Alpert was inspired by the totem poles seen in the Pacific Northwest.
The three totems are “Grace,” which stands over 15 feet tall; “Freedom,” which stands at just under 17 feet tall; and “Gratitude,” which measures at just over 17 feet tall. They’re made of bronze with a black finish. Alpert has been working on totems since 2000.
Alpert is an eight-time Grammy Award winner and has sold more than 75 million records.
