Nightclub ‘Shmacked’ With Suspension
The local Board of Licensing also voted to fine the Roxy Providence’s owners $7,000 over the gathering sponsored by an outside group.
Police estimated that 14 or more buses dropped off an estimated 2,000 people from area colleges near the club for the Sept. 12 event, according to the Providence Journal.
Camera crews for “I’m Shmacked,” which claims to portray on video college life around the country and is not affiliated with the nightclub, were on the scene.
“I’m Shmacked” videos can be found on YouTube.
A group called All Axcess, which is also not affiliated with the nightclub, presents “I’m Shmacked” events around the country.
The Providence event was billed as part of the “fall bus tour” that local college students help to promote.
The tour began at the end of August in North Carolina. “I felt that it was just extraordinary to have that event,” Annaldo told WPRO-AM. “To see hundreds and hundreds of kids drunk and on drugs and laying in the street…the chances of something happening were very, very high. We’re fortunate that there weren’t any violent acts.”
The fine is for violations including failure to maintain order, creating a public nuisance, disturbing the peace and failing to maintain supervision of patrons.
A lawyer for the Roxy told the Providence Journal they were “strongly considering an appeal” of the licensing board’s decision.
