Vietnam Festival Canceled
The seventh CAMA Festival, which takes place annually in Vietnam and has been called Southeast Asia’s biggest international music event, was canceled due to the death of General Vo Nguyen Giap, a national hero.
The one-day festival was slated to take place Oct. 10 at the Tai American Club in Hanoi.
Giap, one of the military leaders who defeated the French in the 1950s and fought against the Americans a decade later, died in early October and the Vietnamese government declared three days of national mourning, Oct. 11-13, during which no entertainment activities could take place.
However, the organizers did manage to set up a show on Oct. 10 at the last minute featuring some of the bands scheduled for CAMA.
Full refunds were provided for those who bought tickets.
CAMA (Club for Arts Music and Appreciation) is Hanoi’s first independent music promoter.
The festival would have featured artists from Australia, Germany, India, Singapore and Brazil.
