Night Of A Million Thumps

Hosted by comedian/actor/radio host/author Jim Norton, the event will take place at The Fonda Nov. 9.  Along with honoring Butler, the evening will also pay tribute to Lee Rocker and jazz-rocker Tal Wilkenfeld. 

This evening of musicians celebrating their own will also bring out several all-star luminaries joining together for a set of Black Sabbath tunes to honor Butler.  The talent-heavy band includes Zakk Wylde on guitar, Anthrax’s Charlie Benante on drums, and Corey Taylor and Sebastian Bach handling lead vocals.

But a tribute as magnificent as this can’t just have one bassist.  Joining in will be Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth, The Winery Dogs), Megadeth’s David Ellefson, Frank Bello from Anthrax, Jason Newsted and Rex Brown  (Kill Devil Hill, Pantera).  Green Day’s Mike Dirnt has been added to the evening’s festivities, appearing as an award presenter.

“Terry ‘Geezer’ Butler is my No. 1 influence and greatest teacher of electric bass in heavy metal music” Newsted said.  “All true metal bassists look up to Geezer as a pioneer and godfather of our chosen instrument.  The best, ever.”

The evening will also include a tribute to blues legend Willie Dixon organized by Darryl Jones, the bass player of choice for The Rolling Stones since Bill Wyman left the band.  As part of the tribute, Jones will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Dixon’s family on behalf of Willie Dixon’s Blues Heaven Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting the blues in schools in the Chicago area and other locations.

Along with this most excellent evening of musicianship, Bass Player Live! will also present musician clinics and exhibitors at S.I.R. Studios Nov. 9 & 10.
