A Moving WOMEX
Organisers of the WOMEX to take place in Cardiff, Wales, Oct. 23-27 are likely to remember it as a moving experience.
The German-based organization behind the annual world music expo is about to shift its offices across Berlin, moving from Bergmannstrasse to Kreuzbergstrasse, opposite Viktoria Park.
One WOMEX staffer described the new billet as being “a stone’s throw away,” although the move effectively shut down WOMEX Sept. 19-20. In a month’s time, more than 2,000 delegates are expected to attend the Cardiff gathering, which will include its usual conference, showcases and trade fair.
WOMEX itself is no stranger to moving, apparently intent that the annual world music extravaganza gets to visit as many parts of the world as possible.
Since its first edition in Germany in 1994, which was staged in its home city of Berlin, it’s been to Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Greece and the UK, as well as returning to Germany multiple times.
In 2014 it will be moving to Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. The new WOMEX address is Kreuzbergstrasse 30, 10965, Berlin, Germany.
