Another Pink Record
To commemorate, arena operator Melbourne and Olympic Parks unveiled a star at the head of the stairs to the main entry doors, framed by the singer and daughter Willow’s hand prints cast in bronze.
Inside, door number 18 is permanently painted pink alongside a signed plaque. Backstage, another Pink pole stands alongside the one set up when she broke the venue’s previous record for 17 shows on her Funhouse tour in 2009.
On an accompanying plaque, Pink scribbled, “Follow that bitch!” to other performers.
Since her first show at the Rod Laver on April 30, 2004, Pink has done 42 concerts and sold more than 500,000 tickets.
Michael Coppel, president and CEO of Live Nation Australia, stated, “Without doubt Melbourne now provides the biggest audience for Pink in any city worldwide, but this has been a decade-long overnight success story.”
Coppel thanked Pink’s manager, Roger Davies, “for making so much of her time available to thrill her Australian fans.”
The three-month “The Truth About Love 2013” tour in Australia sold out 46 shows and shifted 600,000 tickets nationally.
It ends Sept. 8 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
