Danny Elfman & His Tim Burton Tunes At L.A. Live
Danny Elfman has booked his first live U.S. performance in 18 years. After last taking the stage for Oingo Boingo’s farewell concert, the composer will reprise his role as Jack Skellington as part of a concert series celebrating his 15 film collaborations with director Tim Burton.
The two have worked together for nearly three decades, starting with 1985’s “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.”
Following a handful of stops in the U.K. in October, including a sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, “Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton” will arrive Oct. 31 at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.
The show is conducted by John Mauceri and features the 87-piece Hollywood Symphony Orchestra and the 45-member Page LA Choir, along with Elfman’s guest appearance. Accompanied by film clips and the artwork of Tim Burton, the setlist will feature newly created suites from all 15 film Elfman/Burton collaborations including “Batman,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Beetlejuice,” “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” “Alice in Wonderland” and, of course – “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
The Halloween show is perfectly timed for Elfman to perform his songs from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” In addition to writing the film score for the 1993 stop motion musical, the Grammy Award-winning composer recorded the singing voice for Jack Skellington, as well as a few additional characters.
Along with his Grammy award for “Batman,” Elfman’s compositions have been nominated for four Academy Awards and three Golden Globes.
An announcement says that dates are coming for a national tour of “Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton.”
Tickets for the Los Angeles show go on sale Sept. 13.
