Soul Asylum, Fountains Of Wayne Plot October Run
Although Soul Asylum’s upcoming album won’t be released until early 2014, the band plans to fill the void between now and then by releasing a series of EPs. Already available is no fun intended, an EP showcasing the band running through some of its favorite covers by Joy Division, MC5 and Suicide Commandos.
“We choose ‘Attacking The Beat’ from The Suicide Commandos because the band is legendary in the Minneapolis music scene,” Dave Pirner said. “Guitarist/singer Chris Osgood taught me my first Ramones’ chords and is a huge inspiration on all of us.”
The band also covers Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” which Pirner described as “one of the greatest songs ever written” and the MC5’s “Shakin’ Street.”
“MC5 were such a pivotal band in the inception of punk music, they stood for everything I believed in growing up and still believe in today, rock ’n’ roll music can be an agent of change.”
Currently playing the 1992 platinum-certified Grave Dancers Union from start to finish on the “LP Tour” with Big Head Todd & the Monsters, The Wailers and Matthew Sweet, Soul Asylum will appear with FOW on a few non-LP shows September.
