Midnight Oil Manager Resigns

Longtime Midnight Oil manager Gary Morris announced his resignation from the band July 22. The move came after a recent interview with Sydney’s Daily Telegraph in which he speculated whether the band would reunite after singer-turned-Cabinet Minister Peter Garrett left politics this year.

Morris revealed that the band’s U.S. agent, Mitch Rose at CAA, had told him “there were 50 festivals in America (that would suit Midnight Oil) where the band could earn between $75,000 and $200,000 per date.”

In the interview, Morris made it clear that he doubted the Oils would take up the offers.

However, it sparked a global move by fans to reunite the act. As his last duty as manager, Morris emphasized that Midnight Oil has no plans to reform or tour at this time.

“Midnight Oil’s legacy is undeniable, we have achieved great things together, there is much to be proud of in the band’s list of achievements, we are brothers in arms and I will always be there for them,” he added.

As the outfit’s sixth member, Morris was behind many of its highlights, including their 1986 tour through indigenous communities and their appearing in costumes apologizing to the First Australians during their performance at the 2000 Olympics closing ceremony. Morris lives in Tasmania and is involved in a number of businesses.
