Pohoda Every Day

For the third year in a row, Slovakia’s Pohoda Festival enjoyed bright sunshine and the daily crowd averaged more than 26,000.

Good weather and a full house were probably what the organisers were hoping for when they penned the festival slogan: “I wish it could be Pohoda every day.”

The Slovakian economy and what’s almost a guarantee of a good crowd have made Pohoda one of the most reliable of the old Eastern Bloc festivals, and something of a magnet for foreign visitors.

The festival also proves a big bonus for the finances of the nearby town of Trencin, a couple of miles for the old Soviet airbase where it’s staged.

Acts helping to keep Pohoda on track July 11-13 included Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Smashing Pumpkins, Amon Tobin, Kaiser Chiefs, Justice, Bloc Party, and Buena Vista Social Club.
