Fear New Father John Misty Dates
Your favorite “Seattle-based folk beardo” has booked a run of fall U.S. dates, with tickets going on sale to the public this week. Father John Misty will be on the road from early October through November, beginning with a few nights in the Pacific Northwest.
The folk singer/songwriter is supporting 2012’s Fear Fun, his first full-length album released under the name Father John Misty. Before that you knew him as J. Tillman through his solo albums and time drumming for the Fleet Foxes.
So, what’s the dealio with the whole “Father John Misty” name anyway? His label, Sub Pop, fills us in with a quote from the musician, in which he paraphrases Philip Roth: “It’s all of me and none of me, if you can’t see that, you won’t get it’. What I call it is totally arbitrary, but I like the name. You’ve got to have a name. I never got to choose mine.”
Earlier this month SubPop posted a video for the Fear Fun track “Funtimes in Babylon.”

“Music videos don’t need blurbs. It’s like putting a brief summary before a Garfield comic strip. Also when did everyone start calling them ‘clips’? A ‘clip’ is an excerpt of a whole, I thought. Whoever post’s this, don’t spoil the ending in your blurb, which will probably read like this: ‘Seattle based folk beardo Father John Murphy mopes around a deserted, apocalyptic landscape (and shows off some of those infamous dance moves) in this Josh Tillman directed clip for ‘Funtimes In Babylon.’”
