Odds & Ends: Nine Inch Nails, Rolling Stones & More

When Nine Inch Nails launches its 2013 tour next month, you won’t find Adrian Belew on stage.     

The guitarist/multi-instrumentalist announced June 6 he was parting ways with NIN, a little over three weeks after bassist Eric Avery left the group.

The musicians were part of the new lineup revealed in February when Trent Reznor said NIN was “reinventing itself from scratch.”

“Concerning me being part of the 2013 Nine Inch Nails band: it didn’t work,” Belew said on his Facebook page. According to Consequence Of Sound, initially Belew posted a lengthier explanation that said: “hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes. no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating FLUX.”

Belew is best known as a member of King Crimson.

On Thursday NIN announced its fall North American tour. The band’s new album, Hesitation Marks, is due out Sept. 3.

The Rolling Stones have enlisted the help of Arcade Fire’s Win Bulter for June 9’s show in the Canadian indie rock band’s hometown of Montreal.   

“Really pleased Win Butler is joining us in Montreal,” Mick Jagger tweeted about Sunday’s show at the Bell Centre. “I had a great time playing w/ him on SNL, so I know his Stones duet will be outstanding.”

Arcade Fire took the stage with Jagger last May when the Stones frontman did double duty as the host and musical guest of “Saturday Night Live.”

Promising a “historic night of hip-hop, funk and R&B,” Bonnaroo’s Friday Superjam takes place June 14 in That Tent. Scheduled midnight to 2 a.m., technically the show is in the wee hours of Saturday morning.   

But let’s get to the point – the lineup! Backed by funk supergroup Lettuce, the Superjam features RZA, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Schoolboy Q, Earl Sweatshirt, Solange, Chad Hugo of The Neptunes and special guests.

Summer tour plans are on hold for The B-52’s and their fans.

The band postponed June 6 in Port Chester, N.Y., and June 7 in Glenside, Pa., because singer Cindy Wilson is ill. June 8’s appearance in Fairfax, Va., won’t be rescheduled because it is a festival appearance at “Celebrate Fairfax.”

“Cindy’s illness is not life threatening but her doctor has ordered her to take immediate bedrest. … We sincerely regret any disappointment this has caused our fans and hope to be able to make it up to you soon! Xo,” The B-52’s said in a post on the band’s Facebook page.

The band’s next scheduled appearance is a June 19 gig with the Go-Go’s at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom.

Health problems have also affected Behemoth’s schedule. The Polish blackened death metal band has dropped off the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival lineup because drummer Inferno was recently hospitalized for appendix surgery.

“Behemoth is known for not canceling any shows or tours,” frontman Nergal wrote on Behemoth’s Facebook page. “But this is not something we can do when we are missing our driving force, the man behind the drums – Inferno. Unfortunately, he was hospitalized due to appendix surgery and it’s gonna take him few months to fully recover and get back to shape.

“We are trying to save selected European Festivals with a fill in drummer (Krimh,ex-Decapitated), but we won’t be risking doing a full-on prestigious tour like the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival without Inferno.

“Behemoth is a solid unit and any part of this unit missing makes us weaker, and that is not how we want to present our new material to our fans. Please, accept our apologies and be patient, we shall return to Europe (this fall) and US (early 2014) empowered and motivated as never before!”
