Eurovision Rumblings: Is Winning Song A Copy?
There’s talk that the winning entry in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is actually a copy of another song. Does “Only Teardrops” sound too similar to a 11-year-old track called “I Surrender” or is it just a remarkable coincidence?
Although Emmelie de Forest is the singer of “Only Teardrops,” the Eurovision winner was actually written by three songwriters – Lise Cabble, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Thomas Stengaard.
Now there are suggestions that “Only Teardrops” sounds very much like “I Surrender,” a 2002 song released by Dutch band K-Otic.
But what do you think? The two tracks are embedded below. Is “Only Teardrops” a rip-off of “I Surrender?” Or is this just one of those instances where one track is remarkably similar to another but doesn’t cross the line into plagiarism territory?
