Lineup Announced For ‘Boston Summer Arts Weekend’
Boston’s second annual Summer Arts Weekend is slotted for July 26-28 at Copley Square Park. Hosted by “The Boston Globe,” WGBH and Citizens Bank, the lineup for the free festival includes Dr. John and Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
To celebrate and promote Beantown’s arts community, organizers have booked a mix of genres featuring classical, jazz, Latin, bluegrass and soul, along with dramatic theater and dance.

“Boston Globe WGBH Summer Arts Weekend” kicks off Friday, July 26 with headline performances from Dr. John and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Guitarist/harmonica blues artist and Berklee College of Music student Noe Socha will open the show, followed by bluegrass band Della Mae.
Saturday, July 27 features a lineup made up of music from around the world including Galician bagpipe player Carlos Nunez, Beninoise singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo, Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro and Brooklyn-based Bhangra band Red Baraat.
Carlos Nunez will take the stage once more on Sunday, July 28 with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. The Handel and Haydn Society – America’s oldest continuously performing arts organization – will also perform.

With one of Boston’s nicknames being “America’s Walking City” it’s fitting that a series of “Boston Summer Arts Weekend Walks & Talks” is also planned beginning the week of July 21. The agenda includes a Newbury Street gallery tour/art auction, plus exclusive talks with artists and authors at venues across Boston.
Details will be released soon about the Walks & Talk as well as the “Boston Summer Arts Weekend After Dark,” a series of ticketed events featuring short-form intimate performances and collaboration between festival artists.
