Guilty Plea Over Promoter Robbery

A Philadelphia man recently pleaded guilty for taking part in a home-invasion robbery against a promoter that he claimed burned him in a concert deal.

Authorities said Mikael Coles set up the robbery of promoter Jermaine Herod’s home in April 2011 after losing $20,000 on a hip-hop concert when the artist never showed or returned his deposit, the local Morning Call reported.

Coles and three other men broke into the South Whitehall, Pa., house, herded Herod and his family into a small bathroom and fired shots through the door, Lehigh County Chief Deputy District Attorney Jay Jenkins told the paper. Herod was reportedly hit five times and suffered permanent internal injuries.

Coles pleaded guilty May 6 to aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and criminal consipiracy. He testified in court that an accomplice, who’s also been charged, fired the shots, the paper said.

If convicted, Coles could face up to 40 years in prison. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in July.
