AEG Gets Second Chance In L.A.

AEG will have another shot at a management contract for the Los Angeles Convention Center after city officials voted unanimously to solicit a new round of bids.

The company was informed last month that its application to be facility manager had been deemed nonresponsive because it failed to provide corporate tax returns and three years’ worth of balance sheets. At the time, AEG spokesman Michael Roth said the situation was a misunderstanding that would be resolved.

AEG has apparently delivered a box of financial documents to Los Angeles City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana in the time since.

During a meeting of the city council’s Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee April 22, Santana sought advice on how to proceed, noting the city would be left with just a single bidder without AEG, according to the Los Angeles Times. The other candidate is undisclosed.

AEG officials also appeared in the meeting to make their case to the committee.

“We’re not asking for any favoritism,” the paper quoted AEG Vice Chairman Ted Fikre. “We’re just asking for a chance to bid on this.”

The full city council was expected to review the matter and issue a new request for proposals at press time.
