Yes Announces Legs 2 & 3

Yes adds South America and another U.S. leg to its tour featuring the legendary progressive rock band playing three of its albums from start-to-finish. Look for the band bringing its album hat trick to South America in May and returning to the U.S. and Canada in early July.

With their new vocalist Jon Davison Yes is playing complete renditions of 1971’s The Yes Album, Close To The Edge from 1972 and 1977’s Going For The One.  While talking with Pollstar earlier this year, Yes co-founder/bassist Chris Squire explained why the band chose the albums for the tour.

“It was based on what would make a good show”, Squire said. “A cross section of Yes in the 1970s.  The Yes Album, of course, was the first album that got us worldwide attention, put our name on the map. That, in a way, has a place in our hearts as it does for so many fans.

“Close To The Edge was the first time we attempted to do a 20 minute piece that took up the whole of side one. That, in a way, is another landmark album.  And Going For The One, a slightly different flavor again.  Also, of the three albums, [it’s] the only one Alan White played on [following] Bill Bruford.  That was also the first time we recorded outside of the U.K.  That album was recorded in Montreux on Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

“I think the three albums musically complement each other. We’ll find out once we get on the road.  I think it’s going to be good.”

Evidently fans agree with Squire, what with strong ticket sales and sold out shows in Los Angles, New York City, San Francisco, Austin and Toronto.

The band’s second leg covers South America with Yes playing six shows in five Brazilian cities – Brasilia at Ginasio Nilson Nelson May 19; Curitiba at Positivo May 21; Sao Paulo at HSBC Brazil May 23-24, Rio de Janeiro at Vivo Rio May 25 and Porto Alegre at Teatro Bourbon May 26.  Following Brazil, Yes will play Santiago, Chile, at Teatro Caupolican May 28 and Buenos Aires, Argentina, at Luna Park May 30.

Two months later the band returns to North America, starting leg No. 3 at a new venue, the Vina Robles Amphitheatre in Paso Robles, Calif.  Other stops include Las Vegas, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
