W. Hollywood’s Key Club Closing

The nightclub located at 9039 Sunset Boulevard says it will “close its doors permanently” on March 15.

In a letter announcing the closing, Key Club operations manager Ian Shepp said the location will “welcome a new project” in the coming months.

The Key Club’s Sunset Avenue address was the location of “Gazzarri’s” from 1969 until 1994.  You might recall seeing owner Bill Gazzarri in the 1988 rock doc “The Decline Of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years.”  Gazzarri died in 1991. The building was torn down in 1995 after receiving extensive damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

The current building began life as the Billboard Live nightclub in 1996 and switched its name to Key Club in 1998.

From Shepp’s closing announcement:

“This is our final goodbye as Key Club on Sunset.  It has been an honor and privilege to share our passion for music with you.  We hope that you will continue to support the remaining independent live music venues on Sunset Strip – our neighbors at The Roxy, The Whiskey and The Viper Room.

“Rock on and thanks for an incredible ride.”
