Stills Talks Buffalo Springfield

Richie Furay and Neil Young have both had their say about the canceled Buffalo Springfield reunion tour, and now Stephen Stills is ready to talk about the matter.

The three former bandmates got together in October 2010 to play Young’s Bridge School Benefit, marking the first time Buffalo Springfield has performed in public in 42 years. After that came six California shows in 2011 and a set at Bonnaroo Music Festival.

A full tour featuring approximately 30 shows was supposed to follow in September but it was postponed for early 2012 and then called off before any dates were officially announced.

In February Furay told NYC radio station WBAI that the tour was canceled because “Neil is just fickle. … Without the three of us, really there can’t be anything that would even resemble a Buffalo Springfield.”

Young told Rolling Stone in June that a tour could still take place one day “but it’s not happening now. I’d be on a tour of my past for the rest of fucking time, which I can’t do.”

Now Stills is talking to Rolling Stone about the 2012 tour that was over before it began.

“We were supposed to work for most of the summer,” Stills told Rolling Stone. “It left me in a lurch for three quarters and ruined my financial planning. Also, 150 people got laid off that were supposed to work on the tour.”

The guitarist/singer/songwriter explained that although the band didn’t plan on just doing the seven 2011 shows, “when Neil is involved … [with] anything you need a seatbelt.” Stills added that he can’t be unkind and “working with Neil is a privilege, not a right.” 

Rihanna’s Diamond News

Rihanna announced today that A$AP Rocky will be joining her on the road in March as the special guest on her Diamonds World Tour.

The trek begins March 8 in Buffalo, N.Y., at the First Niagara Center. The North American leg of the excursion concludes back in New York with two nights at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center May 4-5.

Dave Grohl Back On Stone Age Drums 

Queens of the Stone Age fans will find Dave Grohl’s name on the credits for the band’s next release.

Founding QOTSA member Josh Homme told BBC Radio 1 this week that drummer Joey Castillo had left the lineup and Grohl will be behind the drum kit for the band’s sixth studio album. The release is due out in 2013.

BBC Radio 1 pointed out that “it’s not clear whether Grohl will join the band on tour” during his time off from the Foo Fighters.

In October Grohl released a statement saying that he’s not sure the next time Foo Fighters would play again. He assured fans that despite taking a break, he can’t give up the Foos because it’s his life, family and world. 

Grohl previously drummed on QOTSA’s 2002 album Songs For The Deaf. Grohl and Homme are also in the band Them Crooked Vultures with Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.
