Rolling Stones Bits & Pieces
But fans do have something solid to look forward to – the new Stones documentary “Crossfire Hurricane” debuting Nov. 15 on HBO. The film will also get a theatrical release in the U.K. and air on BBC 2 later in the year.
Directed by Brett Morgen, “Crossfire Hurricane” promises to give viewers a taste of what it’s like to be in the band and is described as “the backstage pass to outdo them all.” The documentary details the band’s notorious history, including drug busts, the ill-fated Altamont concert and the “descent of (founding member) Brian Jones into what (Keith) Richards calls ‘bye-bye land.’”
“This is not an academic history lesson,” Morgen said. “Crossfire Hurricane’ allows the viewer to experience the Stones’ journey from a unique vantage point. It’s an aural and visual roller coaster ride.”
In other Stones developments it appears the band is working on new material. Earlier this week Jagger tweeted a photo along with the message, “Had fun in the Paris studio this week!”
There are also rumors indicating The Rolling Stones will perform live in the coming months, possibly in London and New York sometime in the fall.
Citing those always reliable “inside sources” Showbiz 411 gossip columnist Roger Friedman says the band will play Nov. 26-27 at The O2 London and Dec. 6-7 in Brooklyn at the new Barclays Center. Friedman says Sir Richard Branson is footing the bill to the tune of $25 million and will use the events to promote his VirginLive launch. Tickets could run as high as $500 with nosebleed seats going for $200, according to Friedman.
But all may be revealed next week. A message on the band’s Facebook page states, “On Ruby Tuesday 4th September, some news is coming and we want you to be a part of it.”
