Metallica Playing $5 Gig Next Week

No, you aren’t dreaming and Metallica hasn’t suddenly lost all of its fans and been forced to play the local coffeehouse for $5 a ticket. The heavy metal band is offering the deeply discounted tickets for a special show that includes a chance to be in Metallica’s 3D movie.

The $5 show is scheduled Monday, Aug. 27 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, following two previously announced gigs at the venue Aug. 24-25.

During Monday’s gig Metallica will have a crew filming what they hope will be the final live portion of the 3D movie. The tickets are only $5 because the show won’t be your typical concert that plays all of the songs straight through.

An announcement on Metallica’s website explains how the show is going to work.

“We will be running though the full live show one last time at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but unlike the Friday and Saturday shows there will be lots of breaks in it to allow for cameras and lights to be repositioned as the director sees fit. Since it is way more fun for us to have YOU there, tickets will be available for just $5 (no extra fees or service charges!) and all the proceeds will benefit the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.”

The band added that the show is starting on the early side “to allow the movie people to do what they do. So please come and plan to stay for a full night of fun and games. … And who knows, maybe we’ll see you on the big screen next summer!”

To compare what you’d have to pay to get into Metallica’s other gigs at the venue, tickets (including the added fees) for the Friday and Saturday shows range from CAD $66.65 to CAD $144.10 (approximately $67.23 to $145.36 in US dollars).

A presale is underway now. Tickets go on sale to the general public Sunday, Aug. 26.

The band notes that there will be no floor tickets for sale because of all of the cameras. Lower bowl tickets are assigned a section but are general admission within the section. Purchases are limited to four tickets per person.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and Metallica is expected to hit the stage at 6:30 p.m. sharp.
