Journey’s Summer Journey

That’s what’s shaping up for late summer as Journey lines up a string of outdoor venues for its upcoming U.S. excursion. Sounds like a massive 1980s flashback, doesn’t it? During the first few years of MTV’s existence it seemed as if you couldn’t watch more than a few minutes of the music channel without seeing videos by any of the three acts.

Of course, a few things have changed since those wonderful ’80s. While Journey still has core members Neal Schon and Ross Valory as well as Jonathan Cain, who joined in 1980, these days the band is also home to drummer Deen Castronovo and singer Arnel Pineda.

A documentary depicting Pineda’s rise from performing in his native Philippines to becoming the lead singer of one of America’s most famous bands premiers at the Tribeca Film Festival April 19. “Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey” by producer/director Ramona S. Diaz will also screen at the San Francisco International Film Festival May 3.

The summer adventure begins in San Bernardino, Calif., at the San Manuel Amphitheatre July 21. Other stops include Paso Robles at the California Mid-State Fair July 24; Quincy, Wash., at The Gorge July 28; Salt Lake City at the Usana Amphitheatre Aug. 3; Canandaigua, N.Y., at the Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands PAC Aug. 15; Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky State Fair Aug. 17; and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, at Blossom Music Center Sept. 22.
