New Joanna Newsom Dates!
We don’t blame Drag City for being excited about the news. After all, this announcement has been a long time coming. The East Coast leg that begins on Sunday marks Newsom’s first North American headline tour since 2010.
Newsom is supporting her first studio album in five years, Divers, which was released in October.
Pitchfork gave the LP an 8.5 review and stamped it with its “Best New Music” label.
“Most artists on their fourth album settle into atrophy, or at least comfort, Newsom delivers such complex, nuanced music, filled with arcane constructions, that she is only her own yardstick,” Pitchfork writes.
The Guardian gave Divers four stars and writes, “It’s at turns maddening, exhausting, enrapturing, insightful and very beautiful. But it always feels like the work of an artist who’s out there on her own, doing something no one else is doing.”
After playing a run of dates through Europe in early November, Newsom kicks off her North American tour at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre. Her 2016 schedule launches with a handful of shows in Australia in January. Along with the new West Coast dates, she also announced a few gigs in Japan.
