He worked for many years with Bill Graham Productions, including traveling with The Rolling Stones and managing the Fillmore East.

A memorial service will take place in January. His family posted the announcement on Hannah Jane Ahern’s Facebook page: “Yesterday morning, at 3:24, our dad and husband, Michael James Ahern, slipped away. We were all with him and he passed with his family’s love surrounding him. Michael managed his death as he did his life; he was himself – kind, generous, funny, working (of course) and taking care of all of us – until the end. He was so profoundly grateful for the life he lived, for his friendships, for his work, and for us.

“There will be a memorial service in January, after everyone has had a chance to be with their families and hold them close over the holidays. We will release all of the details when we know them. We are heartbroken, but we are also overwhelmed with the love we are receiving. We are so grateful to all of you. And we are so grateful for the extraordinary person and gift of our husband and dad.”

He was a pioneering creative force for decades in the concert business.  Among other things he also produced the “Tribute In Light” Twin Towers dedication that has run every Sept. 11 for the past 13 years.
