Talkin’ ‘Blood And Trash’

There’s a lot to love with this outing.  With a history that includes Cadillac Tramps, Youth Brigade and U.S. Bombs as well as playing in Social Distortion since 2000, Wickersham personifies the So. Calif. punkabilly ethos.  Writing with Social D leader Mike Ness, the guitar slinger’s co-writing credits include “Nickels and Dimes” and “Angel’s Wings” from the band’s  2004 release, Sex, Love and Rock ’n’ Roll,  and tracks  “Machine Gun Blues” and “Far Side Of Nowhere” from 2011’s Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. 

Released last year, Wikersham’s Salvation Town solo debut was produced by David Kalish and featured guest appearances by Jackson Browne, Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo, Pete Thomas, Greg Leisz and Gaby Moreno.  Included in Rolling Stone’s “26 Albums Of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear,” the magazine said the disc “evokes dusty roadhouses, grimy alleys and the melting pot of L.A.’s barrio.”

Hailing from the Lone Star State, Biram’s raw sound is very much a result of his one-man-band style combining guitars, stompboards, gizmos and amps.  Described as “a twisted hybrid of gutbucket, hillbilly and godless metal,” by Houston Press, Biram’s musical resume includes his Bad Ingredients album, which snagged the best blues record honor at the 2012 Independent Music Awards.

The second Texan in the mix is Jesse Dayton, who has played with Waylon Jennings, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson.  Dayton has also been filling in for X’s Billy Zoom while the latter undergoes cancer treatment.  Along with issuing albums on his own Stag Records imprint, Dayton has worked on the soundtracks of two Rob Zombie films – “Devil’s Rejects” and “Halloween II.”
