A Few More Dates: My Morning Jacket, Foo Fighters

My Morning Jacket is racking up the miles on the tour bus’s odometer in support of its seventh full-length album, The Waterfall, which was released in May on ATO Records/Capitol.

Entertainment Weekly calls the LP the band’s “richest album yet,” while NPR praises frontman Jim James for finding new ways to use his vocals.

“And even though James’ enigmatic vocals have wound their way through seven albums with My Morning Jacket, the things he can do with his voice grow increasingly remarkable,” NPR writes. “In ‘Believe (Nobody Knows),’ he tucks words into unexpected points, toying with his phrasing in a way that adds weight to the overarching philosophy of his lyrics.”

The newest gigs on the itinerary represent a double serving of MMJ in Boston and New York.

When the Foo Fighters announced it was calling off the rest of its June European tour so Dave Grohl could recover from surgery, he promised he would “do everything I can to come back and give you a night to remember for the rest of your lives AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.”

Grohl dislocated his ankle and broke his fibula after falling off the stage in Sweden in June. After undergoing surgery and receiving six metal screws in his leg, Grohl returned to the stage in a cast to launch the band’s North American tour July 4.

Now the band has planned a trip across the pond in September, with Sept. 5-6 booked at the National Bowl in Milton Keynes and Sept. 8 in Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Iggy Pop will join the band at Milton Keynes. Royal Blood and Honeyblood are coming along for the Edinburgh show.

Fans who had tickets to Foo Fighters’ nixed Wembley Stadium show have the chance to buy tickets to Milton Keynes ahead of the general public. The offer begins Wednesday, July 15 at 9 a.m. local time and ends Friday, July 17 at 9 a.m. local time or when the allocation runs out.

A similar presale for the Edinburgh show is being offered for fans who had tickets to the original show June 23.          

The general onsale begins Friday, July 17 at 10 a.m. local time.       

As for Foo Fighters’ Saturday appearance at Festival D’ete Quebec, which was canceled after 20 minutes because of lightening and heavy winds (via Rolling Stone), the band posted on Facebook, “Quebec City, we’ll be back…Mother Nature always wins…”
