Grohl Breaks Leg And Plays On
The Videos posted on social networks show Grohl walking across the stage and appearing to trip and fall over the edge. “I think I just broke my leg. I think I really broke my leg,” he told the crowd while lying on his back in front of the stage. “I’m going to go to the hospital. I’m going to fix my leg. And then I’m going to come back,” he explained. “You have my promise right now that the Foo Fighters – we’re going to come back and finish the show.”
The remaining Foo Fighters reportedly played a few covers until Grohl, carried on a stretcher and with his leg in plaster, returned to make good on his promise to finish the show. “I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream,” he told the crowd. Grohl, who had fallen at 9 p.m. local time, went on to perform for another 2.5 hours. After the Swedish festival, Grohl’s injury meant Foo Fighters had to cancel the following day’s show at Pinkpop Festival in The Netherlands.
At press time it wasn’t possible to discover when the act would resume its European dates. This year there’s been quite a rash of acts either falling over on stage or falling of it. Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine broke her foot leaping off stage at the Coachella Music Festival in April, U2 guitarist The Edge fell off the stage during the opening night of the band’s Innocence and Experience tour, and Madonna took a tumble during her live performance at the Brit Awards.
