Peace, Love & ‘Hippiefest’
Grab your tie-dyed t-shirts and dust off your love beads because “Hippiefest” is hitting the road this summer with The Family Stone, Rick Derringer, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels and Badfinger Featuring Joey Molland.
Yes, that magical “Summer Of Love” vibe will embrace fans once more when Hippiefest launches in Tucson in early July. The Family Stone features original members Jerry Martini, Cynthia Robinson and Greg Errico along with its new female vocalist – Phunne Stone – daughter of Sly Stone and Cynthia Robinson. The group promises all of the hits that made fans fall in love with Sly & The Family Stone, including “Dance To The Music,” “Everyday People,” “I Wanna Take You Higher” and “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).” In 2012 Martini gave Pollstar readers a behind-the-scenes look at The Family Stone in an interview accessible via this link.
The hits aren’t limited to The Family Stone. Rick Derringer brings his five decades of rockin’ to the tour, including his famed “Hang On Sloopy” from when he was a teenage singer in The McCoys and, of course, his big solo record, “Rock and Roll, Hootchie Koo.”

A part of Detroit’s musical legacy, Mitch Ryder’s string of hits includes “Jenny Take A Ride,” “Devil With A Blues Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly” and “Sock It To Me Baby.”
Joey Molland keeps the legend that is Badfinger alive. The band had several hits during the early ’70s, including “No Matter What,” “Day After Day,” “Baby Blue” and the Paul McCartney-penned “Come And Get It.”
