Ed Sheeran Headed To Stadiums In Australia

After wrapping up an Australia/New Zealand tour earlier this month, Ed Sheeran has already planned a trip back Down Under. Instead of playing arenas, the English singer/songwriter is moving on up to stadiums.

The Sydney Morning Herald was there for Sheeran’s March 30 show at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

“It takes a special kind of courage to walk onto an arena stage with nothing but a guitar, a loop pedal and your voice, but at the age of 24, not only did Ed Sheeran take Rod Laver arena with the confidence of a veteran songwriter, he single-handedly blew the roof off,” the paper wrote.

The publication called Sheeran’s 17-date March/April outing through Australia and New Zealand his “most ambitious tour to date,” but it turns out he’s ready to top his own record.

Promoter Frontier Touring points out that his upcoming November/December excursion marks the first time an artist has played Australia and New Zealand stadiums completely solo.

Sheeran recorded a video to break the big news to fans.

“Hello! I’m coming back to Australia and New Zealand this – well, for me it’s winter, it’s November/December, but for you it’s summer, so that’s a very good reason to be going back. I really can’t wait to come, I really can’t wait come. We’re moving the shows into stadiums and I’m bringing the show from Wembley Stadium to here. It’s going to be bigger, better, longer, better. … Tickets will be online very, very soon. Presales start in a couple of days.

“Please come. I’ll see you then. And thank you for always being kind to me on this side of the world.”
