Lila Downs Brings ‘Bullets & Chocolate’
Look for Lila Downs to play dates in the U.S. and Canada in support of her new album landing in stores later this month. Destinations include San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Washington and Los Angeles.
Downs’ upcoming album is Balas y Chocolate (“Bullets & Chocolate”). Described as a “call to arms,” the songs address the violence and corruption facing Mexico. Serious stuff, for sure, but the word from Downs’ camp is that the music combined with the lyrics provides “uniquely danceable musical fusions.”
The first single from Balas y Chocolate is “La Patria Madrina” and features a duet with Colombia’s Juanes.
Balas y Chocolate will be released digitally in the U.S. March 24.
An activist as well as a singer/songwriter, Downs never fails to captivate and has woven her political persona seamlessly into her music. The Los Angeles Times described her music as “part of a Pan-American palette of sounds” that “cross-stitches elements of jazz, hip hop, rock and ranchera.”
