Amping Up Bethesda

Owners of a new 240-seat venue in North Bethesda, Md., are hoping to draw some of the younger, hipper D.C. crowd up north for shows.

is situated in the mixed use Pike & Rose project that is currently under development but will soon house apartments, luxury condos, a Hilton hotel, restaurants and retail space. And while the venue may face an uphill battle getting some folks to venture past the Beltway, it’s apparently just a short walk from a Metro station.

AMP will feature a 12-foot-by-24-foot stage, an 8-foot-by-14-foot LED wall and cabaret-style seating that will allow for dining during shows, according to Bethesda Now.

Strathmore Associate Marketing Director Mike Fila told the paper his team is working to fill the venue with a wide range of musical acts, tribute bands and comedy. “We’re sort of throwing some stuff up against the wall to see what works,” Fila said. “It’s certainly very exciting, having it finally come together.”

Strathmore also owns 2,000-seat Music Center in Rockville, and Fila added that ideally, AMP hopes to feature artists on the verge of breaking out so they could later play the larger room at a later date.
