Tom Paxton To Travel No More

After countless albums and innumerable honors, including a Grammy lifetime achievement award, Tom Paxton is about to hang up his travelin’ shoes.  That is, following January dates on both coasts, a two month excursion with Janis Ian and shows in England.

Having risen out of the same Greenwich Village coffeehouse scene that included Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Dave Van Ronk, Paxton is a walking, singing, playing legend that symbolizes the long and varied traditions encapsulated in roots music.  This year Paxton will achieve another career milestone when he’s inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall Of Fame March 14.

Paxton is touring in support of his latest album, Redemption Road, arriving March 10 on his Pax Records imprint. Recorded at the Butcher Shop in Nashville with producer Jim Rooney, the album features an incredible lineup steeped in Americana and includes Tim Crouch on fiddle and mandolin, Al Perkins on dobro, frequent collaborator Geoff Bartley playing National steel guitar, Kirk “Jellyroll” Johnson on harmonica and executive producer Cathy Fink on banjo and harmonies.  Janis Ian contributes harmony on the title track and longtime friend John Prine guests on “Skeeters’ll Gitcha”

“If he called me, I’d be there in a heartbeat,” Paxton said about Prine’s Redemption Road appearance.  “That’s what friends are for.  To sing a verse in a silly song.”
