An Evening With Pete Townshend & ‘Quadrophenia’

Pete Townshend has booked a special gig next summer to premiere a new orchestral version of The Who’s Quadrophenia. The show is slotted in between dates on “The Who Hits 50! Tour.”

The 1973 rock opera written by Townshend, which inspired a 1979 film of the same name, tells the story of a British teen in the mid-’60s named Jimmy and his search for peace while wrestling with four different identities. Revamping the landmark album is all part of Townshend’s lifelong mission to take rock music to a higher artistic level.

Composer/orchestrator and singer/songwriter Rachel Fuller, who happens to be Townshend’s longtime girlfriend, orchestrated the new “symphonized” version of Quadrophenia, which will debut July 5 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The show stars Townshend and tenor singer/actor Alfie Boe, who will take over the parts originally performed by Roger Daltrey. They will be joined by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Oriana Choir, conducted by Robert Ziegler.

Presale tickets and VIP packages are available now. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. local time.
