Industry Noize: Lee Takes Charge Of Michigan Theatre

The historic Strand Theatre for the Performing Arts in Pontiac, Mich., is undergoing renovations for a 2015 reopening with industry vet Bill Lee as president and CEO.

Lee, former VP of Celebrity Events Group and VP of sales and marketing for Olympia Entertainment, has been named CEO of Encore Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit that is pending status from the IRS. Lee will oversee all operations of the venue, including booking and the grand opening.

The Strand, after the $20 million renovation, will have a 838 capacity, according to Crain’s Detroit Business. The theatre has reportedly been the subject of proposed renovations since 1999 after the city took ownership following a court battle with its previous owner.

The theatre is located in the heart of Oakland County, surrounded by 4.5 million people in a 40-minute radius, according to a statement.
