Auckland DJ Soane Watkins Dies

The NZ club sector is mourning the death of pioneering Tongan-born, Auckland-based club DJ and producer Soane Watkins. He died Nov. 8 of a heart attack.

The one-time club doorman began in 1989 as DJ Big Daddy in Auckland clubs and on tour with Otara Millionaires Club.

He also produced tracks for Che Fu and King Kapisi and Fat Freddys Drop.

Chart-topping MC Scribe recalled how inspirational his club sets were, with “good vibrations all around.”
